JUST THE FAVORITES

  • Chapel: Today at chapel we read “Where Did My Giggle Go?” by Max Lucado. We talked about looking beyond our circumstances that are not exactly as we expected, and choosing to seek joy in everyday moments with your cabin and friends. We were reminded that laughter and happiness are always within reach. Here at Camp Highlander we are surrounded by love and acceptance, and we will find our giggle when we approach life and camp with positivity and a hopeful heart.
  • Meals: After sleeping in this morning, we were so excited to have Michael’s delicious blueberry muffins, scrambled eggs, sausage links, oatmeal, grits and a fruit bar. For lunch we had grilled cheese or grilled ham and cheese, tomato soup, french fries, a salad bar and a sandwich bar. After a busy afternoon of activities on camp, we were very THANKFUL to enjoy the popular turkey dinner, complete with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, homemade rolls and a salad bar!
  • Sunday Funday: Campers enjoyed fun activities as a cabin during our Cabin Choice Sunday Funday. We had fairy hair, line dancing, zumba, pool, ultimate frisbee, basketball, gaga ball, soccer, tennis/pickleball, reading, disc golf, friendship bracelet making and bombardment. It was an afternoon of FUN IN THE SUN!
  • Weather: We had an absolutely gorgeous hot day at camp today until dinner. There was a slow drizzle that started right as the dinner bell rang, and by the time we were finished making announcements…it was POURING!
  • EP: Tonight’s EP was Campfire, which we had in the gym due to the rain. The rain was coming down pretty hard, but it didn’t stop us from dancing and singing along to our favorite tunes…until the lights went out. Campers started screaming, thinking Color War was breaking, as Mac, Bryan and I looked at each other and said…that wasn’t intentional…we just lost power! The nurses had all the night meds in the gym, and so we dismissed cabins one at a time while there was still a little daylight. They got their meds and were on their way to get dry and warm before bed.

Needless to say…no power, no photos posted, no blog. I’m so sorry, and appreciate your patience. I did want to update you on our day yesterday because it was really fun, totally awesome day, and honestly, losing power and the big rain just made for an amazing story to tell. We are grateful that all of our campers and staff were safe, and we will be talking about the fake break that wasn’t really a fake break for years to come. With that being said, the anticipation of Color War is crazy on camp right now!! I keep telling them…it is coming, maybe when you least expect it!

P.S. The power went out right before we were going to announce Honor Campers and Honor Cabins, so stay tuned for that tonight!
