Today was a fantastic day at Highlander, and the Session C campers are full of energy and gratitude to be here. Your kids love camp! They love their friends, they love their counselors, they love the activities and they love this mountain. Their love is evident in the bright smiles on every camper’s face throughout the day. It is evident in their laughter that fills the air. It is evident in the way they move as a cabin (somewhere between a skip and a run) as they travel from activity to activity. Today I saw their joy as they hit a bullseye at archery, reached the third level of the ropes course and even in the way they hugged their counselor. They are having so much fun, are so happy to be here and the rain doesn’t even make a difference…we’ll ALWAYS love Camp Highlander!

“And you’ll always love me won’t you? Yes! And the rain won’t make any difference? No!”

Favorite Details of The Day

  • Reflect: This morning at Reflect, Lindsey, our Lower Camp Girls Division Head, read Mother Theresa’s Do Good Anyway poem. It was a great reminder that we are not responsible for what others do, only for our own actions. Each of us holds the power to do good in our lives and the lives of others regardless of what others are doing.
  • Weather: We woke up this morning to sunshine. It was warm and a little muggy after the rain last night, but everyone was out enjoying activities on camp all morning. The clouds rolled in after rest hour and the rain started right at the start of 5th period. It poured this afternoon, but the rain slowed down after dinner for EP.
  • Meals: Today was a popular menu for both campers and staff! Breakfast today was assorted bagels with cream cheese, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, oatmeal, grits and a fresh fruit bar. For lunch we had everyone’s favorite…chicken tenders and french fries, a salad bar and a sandwich bar. For dinner we enjoyed a cookout (inside due to the rain) - hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, pasta salad, potato chips, cold watermelon and chocolate chip cookies!
  • EP: Tonight’s EP was Survivor! Cabins were broken into 5 tribes (Forge, Silver, Gillespie, Texaco and Bug Juice.) Each cabin competed against other cabins in survivor themed challenges to advance to the finale. Some games included memory match, pool relays, mini fire building and scrabble. Cabins 10 and 27 competed in the finale for immunity, and Cabin 27 won the challenge, avoided elimination at the tribal council and claimed the immunity trophy!
