As I watched our campers embrace the beautiful day on Old Forge, I was encouraged by the cheering and love our campers were showing for their friends. In a world where competition often takes center stage, the simple act of cheering on your friends can make a profound difference. Supporting each other not only strengthens friendships but also creates an encouraging environment for everyone to grow and learn.

At Camp Highlander we cheer on our friends every day in our cabin unit. When campers cheer on their cabinmates, their words of support and encouragement say “I believe in you and I am genuinely happy for your success.” This is how we boost the confidence of our cabin mates and motivate them to keep pushing towards their goals. We all face challenges and experience failure at times, but knowing your cabin is in your corner gives our campers courage to persevere.

The cheers from Session A 2024 will go down in history! This session will always be remembered for creating the first-ever Camp Highlander cheer squad: the HBCA (Highlander Basketball Cheer Association). The HBA (Highlander Basketball Association) has been a staple at Camp Highlander since the 1990s, and for the first time ever, two activity counselors, Keyno and Kayleigh, formed a cheer squad. The girls practiced all week and made their debut today, cheering enthusiastically at the Taco Cat vs. Prize Picks game. Their smiles lit up the court as they cheered for both teams, in true Camp Highlander fashion. We can’t wait to see them cheer again!

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect at the Rock: This morning Emily talked to us about gratitude. Even when things don’t go exactly as we like, we always have something to be grateful for, especially to be at Camp Highlander!
  • Weather: We had another gorgeous day of weather today. We had a little rain overnight that cooled off the mountain this morning, but it warmed up quickly. Today we had a high of 86 and low of 66. It was a great day!
  • Meals: For breakfast we had cinnamon rolls, scrambled eggs, bacon, oatmeal, grits and a fruit and yogurt bar. For lunch we had meatball subs, tater tots, a sandwich bar and a salad bar with fruit. Dinner was Chicken Fajitas with vegetables, black beans, mexican rice, sandwich bar and salad bar. The disco ball went off and the dining hall went crazy!! Tonight’s dessert…cinnamon and sugar churros!
  • EP: Tonight’s evening program was a camp favorite…counselor hunt. The campers and staff were so excited at dinner when counselor hunt was announced as tonight’s EP. So what is counselor hunt…well, imagine a giant game of hide and seek on about 30 acres of land where you are searching for 50 people hiding in the woods, decked in camouflage. The cabins set out to find the missing staff and each staff member was worth a certain amount of points. The cabin with the most points won the event. Tonight’s winner was Cabin 23!
