We had an SUPERB, action-packed, yet wonderfully relaxing day on Old Forge! Sundays are a key part of the camp rhythm, offering a perfect blend of rest and excitement. The morning starts slow and simple, designed for reflection and recharging our campers and staff. We sleep in a bit, come together for a heartwarming chapel service as a camp family, pitch in to clean up the week’s trash, and enjoy an extended rest hour. After a whirlwind week of activities, our campers truly appreciate this special day to unwind, connect with friends, and recharge for the adventures ahead.
During lunch today, Mac, our Boys Camp Director, and I did a little skit to announce our Sunday Funday activity…Director’s Cup. This is an all-camp competition between boys camp and girls camp for the Golden Cup. Boys Camp was the defending champion, and I was determined for Girls Camp to win this year. We dressed all of camp in their team shirts and we were set to battle it out after rest hour! Well, the girls put up an amazing fight for our win today. Each cabin competed in different games like bombardment, relays, pool volleyball, Head’s Up, thread the needle, human knot, the longest slide (slip’n slide) and more. It was fantastic! We had so much fun at the events, and in the end Girl’s Camp Leadership beat Boys Camp Leadership in a tie-breaker of dizzy waiter! The campers LOVED watching us try and run after 5 bat spins, and we all laughed until we were crying! The screams from Girls Camp after our win were absolutely priceless. They wanted this bad, and I am so happy for them!
Favorite Details of the Day
- Chapel: This morning we had our chapel service in the glorious sunshine. Today we read The Rainbow Fish and talked about generosity and sharing with others. We learned that generosity isn’t really about sacrificing for someone else. The true magic of being generous with others lies in how much more it gives back to you. When we give, whether it’s our time, resources, or love, we open ourselves up to a world of profound rewards that far outweigh the initial act of giving.
- Weather: Gorgeous, sunny and HOT! High of 90 and low of 63. I’m not complaining about the heat because I love the sun!
- Meals: For breakfast we had blueberry muffins, scrambled eggs, sausage links, oatmeal, grits and a fruit and yogurt bar AND CHOCOLATE MILK!! For lunch we had chicken quesadillas, chips, salsa and homemade guacamole, a sandwich bar and a salad bar with fruit. Dinner was Chicken Teriyaki with vegetables, fried rice, egg rolls, sandwich bar and salad bar.
- Surprise: After rest hour, our campers were SO excited to find that the Dolly’s Trolley was waiting for them instead of their traditional snack! We all enjoyed a nice cool treat on this hot afternoon.
- EP: Tonight’s evening program was campfire, which was followed by the campers favorite Sunday tradition…cookies and milk! Congratulations to our honor campers and honor cabins for Session A 2024 who received their awards at campfire tonight. These campers and cabins have embodied the CH spirit this week, living out our core values of courage, honesty, integrity and faith and leading by example as role models and leaders on camp.
