What a fantastic day! The rain is gone, the sun is shining and all is right in our world at Camp Highlander! Days like today, I find myself overwhelmed with the joyfulness on camp and feel tremendous gratitude for the delight that your children bring to my life each day.
Today, gratitude filled Old Forge Mountain! I saw it in the bright smiles on camper faces throughout the day and heard it in the laughter that filled the air. It was evident in the pace of cabins (somewhere between a skip and a run) as they traveled from activity to activity. I saw their smiles when they hit a bullseye at archery, soared through the sky on the zipline and when they braved the river water on their head at riverball. Your children are so happy to be here at Highlander!
Favorite Details of the Day
- Weather: Sunny, high of 83 degrees…chance of rain…none! It was a beautiful day in Western North Carolina, and we soaked up the sun and all the fun!
- Meals: For breakfast we had french toast sticks, scrambled eggs, sausage link and a fruit bar. For lunch we had sloppy joes, Miss Vickie’s kettle chips and salad bar. For dinner we had a Highlander thankful dinner…turkey, cornbread stuffing, roasted vegetables and homemade rolls. The dining hall erupted when the disco ball was turned on tonight…everyone had to dance for dessert by doing the cupid shuffle, but they were so pumped when the homemade triple berry crisp and vanilla bean ice cream was ushered to the table. Another yummy day at camp!
- EP: Tonight’s evening program was the Water Olympics. Cabins were put into different teams and participated in different events on the athletic field like musical ice buckets, River ball, water balloon toss, garden hose limbo, sponge relay, and more. The top four cabins competed in the finale with the counselors representing them in a belly flop competition at the pool. The winner was the counselor Mario from Cabin 25!
