There is a reason that camp friends are the best friends. Camp friends see the good, the bad and the beautiful about you and love you just the way you are. This kind of love and acceptance is not found everywhere, but it is overflowing at Highlander. It is so hard to describe what we have all shared over the past two weeks, but friends at camp are unlike any other friends in your life. Camp friends forgive you even before you apologize, they love you especially when you are having a hard time loving yourself and they see the best in you that you simply refuse to see.
We have had a fantastic time here at camp this session. Rain or shine, the love that your children have for camp and have shown to one another is incredible. Bryan and I want to thank you for sharing your precious children with us. Session A has been truly magical. The smiles, hugs and high fives from your children have meant more to us than they will ever know. Their love for this mountain and their Highlander family has been a daily inspiration and a gift to us. Thank you for your support of Camp Highlander and for connecting with us on this blog each day.
Our hearts are full of gratitude and SO MUCH LOVE for you!
Tomorrow we will:
- take our panoramic photo
- pack up in the morning,
- enjoy dancing in the dining hall at lunch

- eat dinner in the cabin with friends
- enjoy one final campfire of session A
- and fall asleep dreaming of the summer of 2024
Favorite Details of the Day
- Reflect: This morning Lindsey shared Mother Teresa’s “Anyway” poem. It was a reminder to all of us that regardless of what other people may do or say…forgive, be kind, be honest, be happy, do good and give your best. We often think we have to respond to what happens to us, but we actually have the choice to rise above and do good anyway.
- Weather: Today was absolutely gorgeous on camp! Sunny, high of 83 degrees and a low of 58. I love NC summers!
- Meals: For breakfast we had biscuits with gravy, sausage patties, scrambled eggs and fruit bar. For lunch we had meatball subs, tater tots and salad bar. For dinner we had balsamic grilled chicken, roasted brussel sprouts, rosemary potatoes, warm rolls and salad bar for dinner. When the disco ball went off, everyone went crazy because tonight we had dessert - ice cream dream, a Highlander original.
- Apple Cart: Today Lovey, our camp dog, joined us on the apple cart to give all the good-bye kisses to your campers. She loves your children and all the attention. I heard wonderful stories about your dogs at home that your children miss, but I was so happy to see how Lovey brought so much joy to the day for our campers and staff.
- EP: Tonight’s evening program was my favorite EP of the session…Rock at the Top! This is our lip sync night where cabins dress up to dance and sing along to their favorite tunes. We had everything from Justin Beiber’s Baby, Baby to the Beatles Yellow Submarine and even Hard Knock Life from the Annie! It was fantastic!!
See you on Friday!
