We had our very own Fat Tuesday here at Camp Highlander today! Our EP staff decided that it would be fun to carry the theme of square dance tonight throughout our day. From menus to music, we decided to “laissez les bons temps roulez” on Old Forge. It was such a fun and exciting day.

Today was our last full day of activities as a cabin group, so everyone was soaking up every minute of cabin bonding time. I can hardly believe how quickly this session has passed, and to be honest, I’m just not ready to tell these sweet campers good-bye.

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect: This morning Spencer did a stress relief exercise at reflect. He asked everyone to close their eyes and take a deep breath, then open their eyes and look up and down, then left and right. This was a reminder to campers and staff that the the sky wasn’t falling on them, the ground was firmly below their feet, and they still have their friends on their sides no matter what the day may bring.
  • Weather: We had another beautiful day at camp today! Sunny, high of 80 degrees and a nice breeze in the air. The evening brought a chill that will have us all sleeping cozy in our beds tonight! This is the weather that North Carolina summers are all about!
  • Meals: Our meals were Louisiana themed for Fat Tuesday. For breakfast we had king cake cinnamon rolls, scrambled eggs, bacon and a fruit bar. For lunch we had chicken fingers with copycat Raising Cane’s sauce, crinkle cut french fries and salad bar. For dinner we had chicken and sausage jambalaya, hushpuppies and salad bar. Yummy! This born and raised Louisiana girl was very, very happy today!
  • EP: Tonight’s evening program was our last square dance of the session. The weather was beautiful so we enjoyed our Mardi Gras themed square dance on the field tonight. It was so much fun!

NOT SO FAVORITE DETAILS OF THE DAY

We’ve been hit with the stomach bug on camp and it is NO fun! Our nurses in the health hut are absolutely AMAZING, and they are taking great care of their patients with all the gatorade, popsicles, jello and love that they can. Please know that if your child comes to the health hut with symptoms, we will call you and let you know. Our goal is to get each camper well and back into the swing of camp as soon as possible. Shout out to our nurses for all they are doing to care for our campers! We love them so much!
