It was another beautiful, fun-filled day of awesome activities with amazing friends at Camp Highlander . The highlight of my day was the Talent Show tonight! WOW!! We have some amazingly talented campers who showed-off their skills tonight in the Gillespie Gymnasium. The program was stacked with cabin performances, small group acts and solos. With each act that joined the stage, my smile grew bigger with pride for the courage each camper displayed to perform in front of 350 people. It was incredible. We had everything from rubix cube races, kung fu fighting, individual dance performances, acapella solos, group routines, comedy skits, piano performances, card throwing and more. It was wonderful!
While I loved every act of the night, my favorite part of the talent show is the crowd! I love to hear the encouragement of cabin mates or sister and brother cabins with each performance. I love to see when hands go up in the air, swaying side to side in tune with the music. I love to hear the whistles, screams and celebrations from the crowd as their friends hit a high note or complete the perfect back handspring on stage. I love watching the counselors stand on the side of the stage rooting for the courageous camper who decided to perform alone. I love to watch the hugs and the high fives that congratulate the performer on a job well done. I love to see the pride on each and every face after they braved the stage and absolutely killed it! These moments are priceless, and honestly they are forever counted as blessings to me! Thank you for sharing your super talented, extremely funny, creative, kind, brave and wonderful children with us! We love them so much!
Favorite Details of the Day
- Reflect at the Rock: Jackson, our Wilderness department head, talked to us about the ripple effect of our actions and our words on the lives of others around us. Any positive impact makes a difference, no matter how small it may be.
- Meals: Breakfast this morning was cinnamon rolls, scrambled eggs, bacon, oatmeal, grits and fruit bar. For lunch we had copycat Chick-Fil-A fried chicken sandwiches, waffle fries and salad bar. For dinner, we had our Friday night tradition…Papa John’s Pizza and veggies with ranch and hummus. All of camp started the Gus’ cheer again tonight, and Bryan agreed to another trip to the candy and soda shack we affectionately call Gus’.
Weather: The weather was calling for rain, and we were waiting for it all day. Just as the sky grew dark, the temperature dropped ever so slightly and then the sun popped right out again! You can’t predict the weather in the mountains, but we have been truly blessed by beautiful sunshine and happy days! - EP: Tonight’s EP was Talent Show and it was AMAZING!
