Laughter is one of the things that makes life so sweet. Laughter alleviates stress, heals hurts and warms the soul. It can change the course of your day and even feel like sunshine when it’s raining. This morning as I made announcements in the dining hall after breakfast, I looked around and realized that no one had a raincoat and a storm was coming. I urged everyone to get back to the cabin and grab a raincoat before the rain started. Moments later as I dismissed everyone, the sky opened up and the rain came pouring down. Immediately following were screams of laughter and joy coming from all the campers as they chased the rain back to their cabins. And while we needed the rain, what I needed more was the sweet reminder that life is not about surviving the storm, but learning to sing, dance and laugh through the rain!
I am so grateful for your sweet children who have made me laugh more times than I can count this session. I love the funny questions they ask, their brutal honesty and their deep curiosity. With each conversation, I give thanks for the smiles they create and the laughter we’ve shared.
Favorite Details of the Day
- Reflect at the Rock: This morning Phil encouraged us to “be where your feet are.” Often times in life we miss out on the moments we are in because we are looking forward to the ones to come. He encouraged us to enjoy every last moment we have here at camp this session.
- Meals: Breakfast this morning was french toast sticks, scrambled eggs, sausage links, oatmeal, grits and fruit bar. For lunch we had fish tacos, black beans and rice, chips and salsa and a salad bar. For dinner we enjoyed sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, veggies and egg rolls.
- Weather: We woke up to cloudy skies and the sweet smell of rain in our future. Right after breakfast, the sky opened up and the rain came down. It was raining so hard that we postponed the start of morning classes until the storm cleared. It only lasted about 45 minutes, and then the cabins were on their way to enjoy their day. The sun came out mid-morning and it turned into a beautiful day!
- EP: Tonight we had the best time at our last square dance of the session! We line danced to Proud Mary, did the chicken dance and finished our night with the famous Footloose tradition!
