Today we were ALL IN for our first camper’s choice day! Today campers were able to choose their activities, choose their schedule and even choose to spend time with friends from other cabins. Camper choice days are probably the favorite days for most campers because of the independence and freedom of choice it provides. I love the smiles on their faces when watching each camper do exactly what they want to do and loving EVERY minute of their day.
On camper’s choice days many campers opt for a slower paced day to relax and enjoy the relationships they are building with friends, while others enjoy competition in the Highlander Basketball Association league games or at ultimate frisbee on the athletic field. Some campers sign up for downtime like reading in the library or letter writing at the quarterdeck. And we also have unique activities that are not offered as regular activities like running, fishing, gaga ball, zumba, sign language and more. Some campers may choose an off-camp trip for a trail ride or a waterfall hike. But whatever they choose, camper’s choice day is a jam-packed, ALL IN day of fun and favorite things!
Favorite Details of the Day
- Reflect at the Rock: This morning Beth talked about trees and resilience. Trees go through all kinds of weather - hot sun, strong winds, heavy rain and bitter cold, but through it all they grow stronger, taller and more resilient. Like trees, we grow stronger when we face challenges. It forces us to grow and we become resilient, just like the trees.
- Meals: Breakfast this morning was waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, oatmeal, grits and fruit bar. For lunch we had philly cheese steak subs, tater tots and salad bar. For dinner we had an all time camp favorite - Greek Night - greek chicken (with feta, basil and roasted red peppers), roasted vegetables, greek salad, red pepper hummus and pita bread. So so good!! Then the disco ball went off and we all had ice cream sandwiches, which was awesome on this hot day!
- Weather: We had a beautiful, hot day at camp today! The high today was in the low 90’s, which is crazy for WNC. The temperature dropped into the 50’s overnight, cooling us down for a comfortable rest!
- EP: After a long, hot day of camper’s choice, everyone was super excited about a chill game night. Cabins enjoyed playing bingo, pictionary, battleship, deal or no deal, charades, guess who and more. There was no winner, no pressure, just a casual fun game night with friends!
