It was a great day - beautiful blue skies and a bright shining sun made it a great last day of activities for Kickoff Camp. Today was camper’s choice day and every camper had the chance to finish camp doing exactly what they wanted to do. Today campers got to sign up to do their favorite activities one more time before going home. Some campers made pizzas in the wood fired pizza oven while others played board games with friends. We had campers who were focusing on reaching goals that had not met at the ropes course, campers finishing art projects at woodshop, studio or glassworx, campers crossing things off their camp bucket list and even trying brand new things like kayak yoga for the first time. Every camper set out this morning for one more GREAT DAY of activities with friends.
Favorite Details of the Day
- Reflect at the Rock: This morning Lindsey reminded us that we were all unique and special in our own way. She encouraged everyone to embrace the things that make you unique and celebrate being you!
- Meals: Breakfast this morning was waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, oatmeal, grits and fruit bar. For lunch we had corn dogs, mac and cheese and a salad bar. For dinner we had spaghetti and meatsauce, roasted broccoli, sensation salad and garlic bread.
- Weather: It was a beautiful, sunny day on Old Forge and one of the warmest days we have seen all summer. The high today was 92 and the low was 67.
- EP: We finished the session with one of my favorite EPs….Dancing with the Activity Counselors. Each cabin chose an activity counselor or two and they choreographed a dance for our competition. It was fantastic, and the campers had so much fun performing with their favorite activity staff members!
Camp is full of great moments, and this session has had too many to count. I have witnessed some beautiful things over the past two weeks from our campers and staff, and they have left a lasting impression on my heart. I have watched counselors selflessly serving your children with joyful smiles and patient hearts. I have seen campers helping counselors clean the tables after meals, not because they were asked but because it is a job that needs to be done. I’ve witnessed cabins begin the session as strangers and finish it as family. I’ve witnessed forgiveness, love, selflessness, generosity, compassion, courage and grace over and over from your children. For these moments and so many more, I am grateful.
I want to thank you for sharing your child with us this session. Thank you for allowing Camp Highlander to be a part of your family. Thank you for your support of camp and for connecting with us on this blog each day. Tomorrow I will spend our last day of camp enjoying each moment I have left with your children, and I will look forward to seeing you on Friday.
