New Year, New Arts
The Camp Highlander Arts Department is getting a makeover! First, we are excited to share that Drama, a program with improv, acting, theater games and more, is getting a new location. Formerly hosted at our assembly court, drama will be joining some of the other arts in the Art Bays! Complete with a stage, curtains, lights & props, campers will enter a world of creativity for the performing arts. Whether their Drama class inspires their talent show performance or ignites fits of giggles each time they remember their improv one-word story, campers will find joy at Drama.
Pottery, to be known now as Sculpture, is getting spun into more. No longer limited to ceramic art, campers will use other mediums like wire and paper mache for their creations. Create a wire mobile, wire self portrait or CH three trees paper mache sculpture. Ceramics won’t be left out though! Molding clay, hand building and learning to throw on the wheel, are still integral parts of the program. Camper’s will create something beautiful and maybe even practical, like a jewelry dish for all your bracelets from the Bead Barn!
And yes! The Bead Barn will be open for the summer of 2022! Our beadworking program has evolved over the years and has found its success in providing a space for campers to create something meaningful to wear & remind them of their mountain home when summer has come to an end. Or to give as a gift to that new camp friend you are so thankful to have met.
Lastly, but certainly not least we are introducing Studio to Camp Highlander. Merging with our painting classes, Studio will provide a space for campers to learn skills, from drawing and painting to charcoal and pastel techniques. Learn to draw your favorite anime character, make a watercolor of the Blue Ridge Mountains or sketch a self portrait, the Studio will teach and inspire creativity to all!
