THE BREAK

Campers and staff were both in shock tonight when right in the middle of square dance fireworks went off, green smoke started coming from the woods and O Fortuna blared over the sound system. The Green Giants came out from all directions onto the field to officially break COLOR WAR 2021. The looks of disbelief were overwhelming. Like an ant pile that had just been stepped on, campers and staff frantically scattered to find their “break bags” and put on their team colors.

This is the earliest we have broken color war in many years, and the Jolly Green Giants were really hoping for the element of surprise. Well, I think we got it! Stay tuned for all the competition and excitement over the next four days! The fun has just begun!

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect: At this morning’s reflect, held in the dining hall to keep everyone out of the rain, Riley talked about why we should be thankful that we still have so much more to look forward to. Be thankful that you don’t have everything you want, because that means you have something to strive for. Be thankful that you don’t know everything yet, because there’s still so much to learn. Be thankful for all you don’t have, all you don’t know, and all that you haven’t done, because that means you still have a whole lot of life left to live.
  • Meals: This morning we had warm bagels and cream cheese, scrambled eggs, bacon, and fresh fruit for breakfast. Philly cheese steaks with sweet potato fries and green salads were served for lunch. For dinner we had barbeque pork and chicken, macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. We all enjoyed a candy treat from Gus’ place for dessert!
  • Weather: It was a rainy morning on Old Forge. We were so grateful when the sun came out after rest hour and gave us a beautiful, cool afternoon for activities. It was another fun day at camp, rain or shine!
  • EP: It’s Square Dance Tuesday! It’s time for the second square dance of the session, and this one is extra special. Tonight’s square dance was Space Cowboy square dance! Everyone got into their best space cowboy gear and got ready for another night of twirling and stomping on the field!
