Smiles are the language of love at camp. A smile says “I’m glad you’re here” or “I’m proud of you.” A smile can say “you’ve got this” or “don’t give up.” And most of all, a smile says “we love you” and “camp is better because you are here.”
Today was a day full of smiles, laughter and joy. We woke up this morning to a cool summer breeze that had campers snuggled in sweatshirts at breakfast. We were worried about rain with the overcast skies, but by mid afternoon the sun warmed the mountain and shone brightly for activities today. The cool breeze returned for our square dance tonight and the smiles were in full bloom!
After three days at camp together, cabins are filled with smiles that tell the story of our summer. We are reaching goals, making new friends and sharing magical memories each day at camp, and we bear the hundreds, probably thousands, of smiles that prove it. Stay tuned for more smiles, more joy and lots more fun!

- Reflect: This morning at reflect Mac talked about growing older. When you are a kid you are looking forward to each year that comes, anticipating your next birthday. But as you grow older, you begin to state your age as if it is something to be ashamed of. Somehow another year has passed by in the blink of an eye. However, there comes a point when the excitement of another birthday returns. You’ve made it! As you live your life, it feels as if you are always looking towards the future or holding onto the past. But in all that time you forget to embrace the present and live in the moment. Appreciate the time that you have now rather than dwelling on what has already passed you by or what may be ahead. The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today and making it better than the one before.
- Meals: For breakfast we enjoyed warm biscuits and gravy, sausage, scrambled eggs, and fresh fruit. We had turkey and cheese ciabatta sandwiches with potato chips and mixed green salad for lunch. For dinner, we enjoyed chicken teriyaki with broccoli, fried rice, egg rolls and asian slaw.
- Weather: Today on Old Forge we had a mountain breeze keeping us cool in the bright summer sun. It was a perfect day for activities and square dance out on the field!
- EP: HOOOOOWDY! Tonight was the first square dance of C Session. The entire camp put on their dancing boots and cowboy hats and gathered on the land sports field for a wonderful night of dancing. Everyone do-si-doed and swang their partners around the field.
