We have been in camp now for nine days, with only four days until our campers go home. How is that possible? We’ve had such a busy and exciting few days here on Old Forge, and I think it has made the session pass by faster than we wanted it to! The truth is, the next three days will fly by and so our plan is to make every moment count.
One of the things I love the most about camp is seeing the world through the eyes of a camper. The perspective of a child, while less experienced and maybe less wise, is much more simple than those of adults. I love the way that our campers celebrate the littlest things, and I am inspired by their positive attitudes and joyful spirits.
We were blessed with another beautiful day at camp today that was the perfect complement to a laid back day at camp! Today we operated our Sunday schedule on a Monday. Sundays are typically restful, easy-going and quality days at camp. On Sudays, we invest in our cabin, in relationships and in rest. Since the 4th fell on a Sunday, we made Monday our Sunday. Even though I still don’t know what day it is, today was exactly what we all needed to regroup for our final days of the session- slower pace, longer rest hour and quality time with friends.
Today we slept in, which was very needed after a busy day of competition and a very late night of fireworks. We woke up to cool mountain breezes and sunny skies. After breakfast, we had cabin inspection and camp clean-up. Then we signed up for Camper Choice activities for our afternoon.
You may have noticed from the photos that we have eased the mask restrictions a little at camp. After an eight day quarantine at home, eight days at camp and no symptomatic campers, we were excited to announce that mask restrictions would be eased outdoors and at activities. We want to thank you, parents, for making this possible by following our protocols, so we could give this small gift to your children that was SO HUGE! I wish you could have heard the cheers when we announced the mask lifting yesterday and that we were having camper’s choice today…it was deafening and glorious! We were so grateful to offer camper choice activities today for campers, and they were SO excited for the freedom to choose their fun for the afternoon.
And so with three days left to enjoy your amazing children, I will choose to enjoy every moment, seize every possibility for laughter, joy and adventure. For the next three days, we will make every moment count! Thank you for making these amazing moments possible!
