Every morning at the end of Reflect at the Rock, we recite these words, “Make today better than yesterday, as good as you hope tomorrow will be, with courage, honesty, integrity and faith as you live the Highlander Creed.” At Camp Highlander, we strive to be our best, do our best and give our best to each and every day we are at camp. We encourage our campers to make today better than yesterday, as they seek to try new things, make new friends and embrace new adventures. We have created a safe environment for campers to learn and grow as they face challenges, overcome failures and reach their goals. Making today better than yesterday is not about accomplishments or performance, but about attitude and effort. I am so proud of your children and how they have embraced every moment of camp this week. Today was better than yesterday because I saw your children coming out of their shell, smiling bigger and laughing louder. I watched them dance in the dining hall and sing their hearts out! They are having so much fun, and we all can’t wait for an even better tomorrow!

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect: This morning at reflect, Emily shared an adaptation of the book It’s Ok to Be Different by Todd Parr. She reminded our campers that it is ok to be yourself at camp and to let other people see the real you. No matter what you think is different about you, that is the you that everyone needs to know because that is what makes you special!
  • Meals: For breakfast we had the yummiest, fluffiest pancakes! They were amazing. We also had eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal and grits. Oh, but those pancakes!! Lunch was a camp favorite - chicken fingers and french fries. That really overshadowed the veggies and hummus we also had to balance out our meal. For dinner, we gathered on the land sports field for one of camp’s BEST traditions - COOKOUT. We had hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, pasta salad and the juiciest watermelon. Campers were lined up for seconds of burgers and dogs, but the watermelon won for most popular item on the menu!
  • EP: Our EP staff put on another amazing EP tonight. Tonight was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Campers split into upper and lower camp and rotated between two stations - the gym and the rec hall. They enjoyed Augustus Gloop balloon races, Violet Beauregard’s blueberry toss, Veruca Salt golden egg toss, the candy guessing game, the inflatable obstacle course “imagination tower” and building Wonka’s castle. It was a blast!
  • Weather: We had another day of beautiful weather on camp. The rest hour rain visited us again, but it dried up for an afternoon of fun activities.

Good food is that much better when shared with good friends.
