While waiting at the gym for our Opening Day arrivals, I heard over the radio the name of our first camper arriving for Session A 2021 and my heart almost exploded! Looking around at our beautiful camp property, I breathed in the beautiful sunshine and quietly gave thanks for the gift of today…the gift of camp…the gift of your children and welcoming them home to Highlander. As I greeted each car and camp family, I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for each and every one of you. Thank you for making this summer possible and for allowing us to open our gates to your wonderful children. It’s so good to have them home!
From our perspective, Opening Day was a huge success! Many families commented on the arrival process being smooth and easy, and we would have to agree! Our counselors loved being able to spend the morning in the cabin with the campers getting them unpacked and settled before we jumped into a fun-filled afternoon of activities. After lunch, we hit the ground running with 3 activity periods and lots of fun! Your children were dancing and singing as they walked from activity to activity.
Favorite Details of the Day
- Meals: Session A started off with the classic opening day grilled cheese and tomato soup. Salads were served alongside the sandwiches for a well-balanced lunch. Turkey sandiwches, PB&Js, and avocado toast were also available to eat. For dinner we finished off the night with a delicious plate of pot roast! Buttery rolls and salads topped it off. The dining hall exploded with excitement when the disco ball turned on and Highlander Mudslides were served for dessert!
- Weather: It was another beautiful day at Highlander with tons of warm summer sunshine.
- EP: Sunday night ended with our opening campfire. The mountain was filled with music and laughter as campers swayed along to every campfire song.
Whether first time or returning campers, this mountain is our home away from home for the next two weeks. Together as a camp family we will experience new adventures, build new friendships and grow in indescribable ways. They say that home is where the heart is, and my heart is here with your children. After just one afternoon, I know that the hearts of these Session A campers are already falling for Highlander, and we love it!
