What a fantastic day! The rain is over, the sun is shining and all is right in our world at Highlander!
Days like today, I find myself overwhelmed by how great camp is and how blessed I am to be a part of it. I am fortunate to witness so many beautiful moments between campers and staff each day that take my breath away. Counselors selflessly serving in too many ways to count with joyful smiles and patient hearts that inspire me as a mother. Campers helping counselors clean the tables after meals, not because they were asked but because it is a job that needs to be done. Campers that were strangers just a few days ago singing and laughing with their friends on the way to activiites. So many great moments. So much good in our world at Highlander.
Favorite Details of the Day
- Reflect at the Rock: Today’s topic at Reflect was honesty. Beth shared with our campers and staff that honesty is the foundation of every relationship.
- Meals: Breakfast was biscuits, gravy, sausage, scrambled eggs and fruit bar. Lunch was meatball subs, tator tots and salad bar. Dinner was chicken fajitas, homemade guacamole, corn and black bean salsa and salad bar.
- EP: Renaissance Fair!
- Weather: The weather is amazing! Sunny all day with a cool breeze and chilly temperatures in the morning and night that called for sweatshirts! I love summers in the North Carolina mountains!
As the sun went down on Old Forge, we turned up the energy. Tonight’s EP was absolutely fantastic! The Gillespie Gymnasium was converted into a Renaissance Fair where campers dressed as knights and princesses who wandered freely to enjoy games, prizes and lots of yummy food. There was medieval jousting, archery, potions at the apothecary, face painting, arm wrestling, and more. Campers got their fill of cotton candy, apples, mozarella sticks and even gumbo. It was certainly a knight to remember!
