As all the unsuspecting campers and staff were sleeping soundly in their beds, the Green Giants were preparing for one of the most exciting Color War breaks of all time. Around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, O Fortuna began playing on speakers all around camp. Green Giants lined the roads wearing robes and carrying torches as green laser lights beamed on the buildings of camp. “Is this a dream,” they asked. “No. It’s really happening! Color War is breaking!” The screams and cheers were unrelenting until the Color War poem was read. While in the gym, the campers and staff were announced by name, and the teams went crazy for each and every new camper and staff member who joined their pack.

With heads held high and team signs in the air, the gym was quiet as the Color War poem was read again, to officially start the war. Every camper and staff member’s face beamed with excitement - this was the moment they had been waiting for. Then in unison the teams joined in for the last line of the poem, “the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.”

It is going to be an incredible 4 days. Join us on Facebook and Instagram for updates throughout the day. My blog format will change to include more pictures, daily scores and some explanation of the events each day. I’ll do my best to help you comprehend the magnitude of this amazing week, but there are just some things that have to be experienced. Color War is one of those unique opportunities! We are so glad your children get to be a part of it!

Favorite Details of the Day(Thursday):

  • Reflect - Today Karl talked about courage. He quoted John Wayne saying “Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway.”
  • Meals - Breakfast was biscuits, eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt, grits and oatmeal. Lunch was Chicken Sandwiches, waffle fries and salad bar. Dinner was cookout on the field! This is one of my favorite traditions at camp! It is so fun to watch the campers throw the frisbee or football and just sit around in crazy creeks with friends.
  • EP - Scavenger Hunt! At the end of the EP, the campers started booing because they were so sad that Color War didn’t break!
  • Weather - The weather was incredible today. We had the bluest skies you’ve ever seen and a cool breeze in the air all morning. The sun was out all day, and it got really hot after rest hour, which made afternoon activities wonderful! High today was 86 and low was 63. Nothing beats North Carolina summers!
  • Best part of my day - Delivering cuties in the cutie cart to all the cuties around camp! It brings me so much joy to see them playing and having so much fun!
