This summer has simply spoiled us. For most of the camp season, we’ve enjoyed abundant sunshine, temperatures sitting comfortably in the 80’s and just enough rain to keep things cool and lush and green (and to keep the rivers and lakes filled and ready for some water-related fun!)
And we’ve certainly taken advantage of this idyllic summer; soaking up the sun by day and cranking up the fun by night! This week, especially, has been filled with all sorts of adventures! Chiefly among them, perhaps, was the annual Campstock competition (a summer camp version of the olympics, so to speak), in which several camps in the area compete in a variety of sports including basketball, volleyball, swimming, tennis, archery and even a totem-pole making contest! Our campers, donning their brilliantly bright yellow tie-dye shirts, represented the very best of the Highlander spirit!
But the fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down! In fact, our Evening Programs are so full of energy and excitement they might just be the pinnacle of fun here on camp! Last night was the fan favorite, Dancing with the AC’s (Activity Counselors) – a Camp Highlander spin on the world famous TV show, Dancing with the Stars! Each cabin on camp gets to pick an activity counselor to dance with, then they choose their song, choreograph a dance and perform before the entire camp! It’s always amazing to see what our creative campers and staff come up with (basketballs, pajamas, synchronized swimming and all!)
Even our leadership team got in on the action with a dance of their own!
By sunlight or moonlight, indoors or out, playing sports or dancing the night away, there’s never a dull moment at camp!
