One of my favorite traditions at camp is the sound of the bell ringing. This usually means that something big is about to happen…maybe it’s the wake-up bell to start another exciting day on the mountain, or the four tolls to represent Courage, Honesty, Integrity and Faith right before Reflect at the Rock; or that bell to wake you up from the best dream-filled nap at rest hour. I love the bell that draws you into the delicious smells of our next meal in the dining hall and of course, my favorite bell of all – the bell to announce the start of EP and a memory filled night on Old Forge.
After campers and staff leave each summer, the bell has a different job. There are no more rest hours, no more Reflect at the Rock, no more EPs but that bell stays busy. So why are we ringing that bell in the off-season? We ring the bell to start the wedding. The Highlander bell serves as the wedding bell before the bride and groom say “I Do.”
Over the past eight years, former campers, staff members and friends of Highlander have come to Old Forge mountain to celebrate their marriage and provide an unforgettable weekend at camp for their guests. Just like campers, the wedding guests stay in cabins, eat in the dining hall and enjoy the fun and adventurous activities on camp.
After years of hosting camp weddings, we are proud of the top-notch experience and service that we provide to our clients. Our sweet, simple mountain home quickly turns into a wedding beyond a bride’s wildest dreams. We know that Camp Highlander is A Place Like No Other, so it is no surprise that this mountain provides a Wedding Like No Other.
We are honored to have a few of our couples featured in an article from the Washington Post this week about the fun and adventure of a camp wedding.
With all the love and happiness to be shared on our mountain, we adore doing weddings! To see more about weddings at Camp Highlander, follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Our next wedding is May 14, 2016!
