Karl brings lessons from Cowboy Ethics to our campers and staff this morning. The first principle in the Code of the West is “Live Each Day with Courage.” As a part of the Highlander Creed , we seek to live each day with courage here at Camp Highlander and to instill courage in the life of our camp family.
Courage is a choice. Karl shared with us that John Wayne said that “Real courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway.” Many of our campers will be faced with challenges that may scare them to death at camp, but we are encouraging them to take their fears head on and have no regrets. With courage, campers will overcome fears and gain achievement that will build character and change the way they view themselves and the life that they lead.
Karl brought the life of the cowboy close to home for camp today. “No one lacking bravery would last long on the range.” Bravery is necessary to make it in this world we live in. It takes courage to make the right decisions and face hard things. It takes courage to stand up for your friends or what you believe in. Today we will seek to live with courage. May you do the same.
